Make Sure Your Dog Stays Healthy And Happy This Summer

The summer months are perhaps the best months for both dog and owner.Plenty of long warm days and evenings mean ideal walking conditions. For dog owners across the country there can be little better than a quick early morning walk with their pooch. Not only is a brisk walk good for your health, but it is also great for the dog’s health too. But don’t forget that with summer comes new, unwelcome dangers to your dog.

Alfresco BBQ Parties

We all enjoy a summer BBQ. Whilst enjoying the outdoors many of us allow our dogs to roam free with us in the garden. But be aware that allowing your dog to be in the same space as a hot BBQ could spell disaster.A dog will not realise that the BBQ is hot, possibly until it is too late. A lively dog could easily run into the BBQ, causing injury or burns. Furthermore, the food that we humans love to consume is simply not good for your dog.You may think it will do no harm to offer him a burger or sausage and the likelihood is that he will beg for more. This type of human food offer no nutritional value and will lead to your dog continuously asking for food from your plate.Just make sure he has a full bowl of his favourite dog food close at hand – that should help to keep him happy. Bones are another hazard, so never let your dog eat chicken wings or pork chops.

Fresh Water

Water is an essential part of any dogs daily feeding routineAs the months get warmer it becomes even more important.Offer a bowl full of clean water during every meal and make sure that this dish is topped up throughout the day. When you are out with the dog remember to take a supply of water with you.He will benefit from regular drinks and will certainly be thankful that you are quenching his thirst!

The dangers of keeping a Dog locked in a Hot Car

If it is hot outside you should never, ever leave your dog locked in the car, even for what you believe will be a matter of minutes.Cars can get really hot and your dog is at risk of dehydration or death if you leave him locked inside.

Sun Screen

Dogs are as vulnerable to the sun’s rays as humans. You can now but dog friendly sun tan lotion that is formulated to protect against sunburn. Be awre that it is the areas of the body with little fur coverage that are at greatest risk of sun burn, so pay attention to the nose, ears and paws in particular.
